There's something about the Mussels From Brussels that sticks out among the memories of action packed video store selections of the past and current day over blast fast in your face action. The flex, the high yell sounds, the split that shook the cinematic world of 80s and 90s movie theaters. Now VHS is back in full fashion it’s time to put a little electric tape haze of the VCR on some of the wild outrageous action of the Belgium superstar onto the Balboa screen. Time to do some VAN DAMMAGE!
Bloodsport is where it starts all with JCVD in 1988, the story or really the adventures of Frank Dux going across the seas to a mysterious Kumite ring for only the best and badassess of the world, who can also punch through 10 tall bricks. Bloodsport was the movie that showed the world this guy named Jean Claude was a wrecking ball not to be messed with. A time before Mortal Kombat and Tekken, the ultimate tournament fighting to the death in Bloodsport.
Hard Target from 1993 came at the height and intersection of Hong Kong action cinema's golden era and Van Damme cashing the big studio checks. John Woo of The Killer and Hard Boiled came over seas to New Orleans to make this extreme action touch and a greased up mullet hero wearing JCVD. A drifter that gets caught up in a most dangerous game between psycho rich sporting on the homeless population. Of course it’s a beautiful woman that catches the Van Damme’s eye for him to kick and flex punch across the bayou to be the hero. Get ready for some of the most fire and brimstone action the 90s gave us with Hard Target.
